First League (Bulgaria)

The First Professional Football League is the top division in Bulgarian club football. It was founded in 1924 - initially as a knockout tournament - and has also been played in a round-robin format since 1937. As a UEFA member, it sends its clubs into European club competitions. The most successful club in the league is CSKA Sofia with 31 championship titles, while Levski Sofia is also one of the most tradition-rich clubs. The league's record goalscorer is Martin Kamburov with 256 goals, and the record appearance holder is Georgi Iliev with 461 appearances.
