The Azerbaijani national football team, in Azerbaijani *Azərbaycan milli futbol komandası*, plays its international matches within UEFA and therefore in European competition, despite the country's geographical location in Asia. The team played its first international match in September 1992 in Gurjaani against Georgia. Rəşad Sadıqov holds the record for most caps with 111 appearances, while the record goalscorer and current captain is Emin Mahmudov with 16 goals. Home matches are played at the Tofiq Bəhramov Stadium. The team has not yet qualified for either a World Cup or a European Championship. mehr lesen...
